The Thousand Island Zoo

For many of us who visited Sixberry Lake during the 1980's, the sound track inevitably included animal sounds from the T.I.Zoo.  Every evening a lion named Alice would say "Goodnight" to us in her lion-like way, and my kids would always say, "Goodnight, Alice."  Mornings generally brought a cacophony of sounds, perhaps the most striking were the sqawks from the peacocks - which continue today.  The zoo, operated by Beverly Tessler and her family,  opened in 1981 and closed to the public in 1994.  Although Alice passed away in 2000, and their other lion, Molly, in 2003, they still have a number of interesting animals, including donkeys, peacocks and a Dromedary Camel.
